Quartz

Quartz

Quartz is made from crushed quartz. Polyester resins are used to bind everything together, while pigments are added for color. Quartz is on the of the more lavish materials found in the Earth’s surface. It can be found in igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks. Quartz slabs are engineered in a factory, unlike natural-stone slabs.

Appearance

Quartz has a more uniform selection of colors in sophisticated hues and dynamic colors in comparison to granite. The appearance depends on how the quartz is ground. Coarsely ground quartz produces a flecked appearance, while finely ground quartz produces a smoother look.

Durability

Quartz, like granite is extremely hard to scratch. Quartz is stain resistant even with lighter colors, however it is not recommended for outdoor use as the colors may fade. Quartz can withstand temperatures up to 400°F with the use of a hot pad or plate.
